Welcome to my new blog powered by Movable Type. This is the first post on my blog and was created for me automatically when I finished the installation process. But that is ok, because I will soon be creating posts of my own!

Center Point Gaming turns 1 year old!

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Yes folks, one year ago today CPGaming was launched into the virtual universe known as the Internet. In the past year we've gotten Joomla running and begun adding content (more is coming, I promise!) and set up a phpBB3 forum system with some great mods. I know the updates have been slow coming, but there are a lot of things in planning stages which are now nearing implementation. The administration is working hard to improve the site. The first big updates coming up will be the addition of a game blog / commentary section with weekly posts and vast improvements to the forum store system.

Here are a couple cool statistics for those who are interested:
Over the past year, we have had visitors from over 40 countries.
We had 959 unique visitors the past month and have had over 100 each day so far this month.

This past year a solid foundation was built which we can use to expand on in the coming year. I am predicting an exponential increase. If you are one of those people reading this who hasn't gotten involved yet, please register for our forums and contribute to our wonderful community. As more people join, I will be promoting new staff, and they will get some nice perks.

Thanks for the support and have a great summer!

The Center Point Staff would like to invite anyone interested to join us in the browser-based php game, OGame. In OGame you can take control of multiple planets and moons, gather resources, manufacture buildings, research advanced technologies, build fleets of space ships (you can even build Death Stars!) and wage intergalactic war against other players. Sound cool? At the core, it is a fun strategy game which you can take a few minutes here or there to enjoy without feeling forced to funnel any massive amount of your life away. If you're interested in playing with us, register for Universe 7 on OGame.org. After joining, send a message to myself (Darklighter), SpaceGamer, or AzBenny (Ryu Ken) and we will invite you to our Alliance, the Ailon Nova Guard. Alternatively, feel free to contact one of us via the forums.

What are you waiting for? Click here to get started! (Do not forget to register in Universe 7)

Introducing...CPGaming.net!

Woot! We now have our own domain on the Internet - CPGaming.net. Be sure to add it to your bookmarks. All pages on the site will now be cpgaming.net/whatever (try it out: cpgaming.net/forum). This makes Center Point much easier to remember and pass along to friends. We've taken a big step towards a bigger presence on the interwebs.

Update and a Focus Shift

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Well, it's been quite some time(just over six months) since our last update. For that, I apologize. Between school and work, I have barely had enough time for video games. Center Point wasn't high up on my list of priorities. I have put some work into the forums, however, and feel I can get this place moving in a positive direction again.

My current focus has shifted to building a strong gamer community within our forums. Once that happens, there will be much more support for adding content to the the rest of the site. As far as the forums go, they have a fresh new look and a currency/shop system. Expect many more additions and improvements to come. If you aren't registered for our forums yet, be sure to do so. We would love to meet you!

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

by Chris

After months of hype, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is finally on store shelves. Samus Aran is back and better than ever!

After only playing for a few hours, I can say with full confidence that this game is the best in the series. The new control scheme is right on target, the plot is much easier to follow, and a higher level of interaction with the game environment makes it that much more realistic. Nintendo's philosophy has always been that gameplay is what makes a game. Corruption is a perfect demonstration of this. Opening up and blasting on some poor space pirate is just great! Pointing and shooting with the Wiimote comes naturally. You throw and retract your grapple beam with the Nunchuck and can interact with various parts of the environment with the Wiimote. The plot is kept much closer to the surface, without straying from the adventure aspect of the game. You've got the same powerups, energy bars, and save rooms as in the past; but there are also new features to unlock, such as the phazon-enhanced hypermode (just don't stay in it too long).

Graphics. Icing on the cake here. To anyone claiming that the Wii's graphics suck, you just got slapped in the face. Just looking at the game, most people would assume they were looking at different system. This is without a doubt, the best Wii game to date (graphically speaking). It amazes me how they are pushed through the system so effortlessly. The graphics here are flawless.

The music and sound effects are what you can expect from a Metroid game. Corruption has the same crisp weapon sounds and epic music tracks as its predecessors (along with some new mixes). Voice acting is new to the game and has been well implemented.

All in all, this is the FPS of the year, if not all time. When you have the Metroid name mounted on top of the best FPS control scheme ever, you know you've got a winner. Metroid Prime 3 is a must buy for any Wii owner!
